As in previous months, Port Arthur City Council regularly provided services like light, electricity, and telephone to various military and patriotic groups. Telephone service had been provided to the 94th Battalion, which was embarking to Britain this month.

In this role, he had been communicating regularly with the Councils of both Port Arthur and Fort William, regarding support for the Battalion. Douglas Kerr, quartermaster for the 94th Battalion, sent a letter notifying Fort William City Council that he had been charged $50 for streetcar tickets that were supplied to the troops. Fort William and Port Arthur had both been regularly providing street railway tickets for free to enlisted men and those engaged in military activities. The charges are withdrawn, and the tickets are considered a donation to the 94th Battalion.

June 13: Fort William:

The Acting Mayor, Robert Stevely Piper, as well as Aldermen Roderick John Byrnes and Albert Hugh Dennis, agree to meet with the officers of the 96th Lake Superior Regiment, to discuss the City advancing some pay for the 96th.

There is no other mention of this issue in Council minutes for 1916.

June 26: Port Arthur:

The Salvation Army representative Ensign Oake requests that Port Arthur provide funds to purchase paper and envelopes for the soldiers of the 141st who would soon be training at Gresley Park.  A donation like this would allow the men to write letters home to their families. Council elects not to decide on the matter  until the 141st is in place.

June 26: Port Arthur:

A donation of $12,000 was recommended to be given to the Patriotic Fund in May and here a cheque of $3000 is issued by the City of Port Arthur. The Patriotic Fund supported those who were left in poverty by the war, especially dependents of those who served overseas.
